Rev. Adolfo Ugarto Gonzalez was born on December 13, 1935 in Great River, Rio Grande Barr, Nicaragua. He was baptized on April 14, 1936 and was confirmed on March 21, 1948 at the Rio Grande Barr Moravian Church. Adolfo attended the Rio Grande Elementary School and the Moravian High School in Bluefields, Nicaragua. After high school, he went to Bilwaskarma to study for three years at the Moravian Biblical Seminary.Rev. Gonzalez then went to Managua to study at the National University of Nicaragua for four years where he received a Bachelors Degree majoring in education, mathematics, and English as a second language. After graduating, he went to Costa Rica to continue studies at the Latin American Theological Seminary for three years. He returned to Nicaragua for two more years and earned a Masters Degree in Education. Adoflf served six years as Principal of the Moravian High School in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua until he migrated to the United States in 1979.

After arriving in Houston, he served the Almeda United Methodist Church as Music Director for eight years. Adolfo has served and developed the Port Arthur Moravian Fellowship (originally call the Miskito Moravian Fellowship) since the summer of 1988. Though some of the first participants were Nicaraguan refugees (Miskito Indians) who had come to Texas around 1980, a larger influx in 1988 and 1989 swelled the membership.

Rev. Gonzalez was approved by the Unity Synodical Committee in September 1989 as a “lay pastor for a special ministry in the Port Arthur Moravian Fellowship” and granted a Pastoral License in 1991. Later he was approved for ordination by the Synodical Committee meeting at its March 1991 meeting. He was ordained into the ministry of our Lord on May 19, 1991 in Port Arthur, Texas. Rev. Gonzalez was the pastor and served the Miskito Moravian fellowship for 32 years, now called the Good Shepherd Moravian Church.

Obituary

Rev. Adolfo Alfredo Ugarte Gonzalez, age of 87, Port Arthur Texas, died Friday, March 03, 2023 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. A native of Nicaragua, he was a resident of Port Arthur for over 35 years, and he was pastor at Good Shepherd Moravian Church in Port Arthur, Texas.

Survivors include: Henry Zamora Dublon (non biological son) and family, other relatives, friends, and all church Congregation.

Special services and viewing will be on March 10, 2023 and March 11, 2023 at 7:00 PM.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 10 AM At Good shepherd Moravian Church, 2910 34th, Port Arthur, Texas. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park.
